Unfortunately, pain is not an unusual enlarged prostate symptom. Whether it manifests itself as a part of urinary problems or a general pain in the pelvic area, pain is nothing at all to sneer at. Many men prefer to take a “wait and see” approach, but this can be more detrimental than actually seeing a doctor and treating the problem.

There are many men that fear the onset of an enlarged prostate for a variety of reasons. They should take heart in the fact that it is a perfectly normal condition in men middle aged and older – in fact, the older men age, the more likely it is to develop an enlarged prostate. However, some men will experience very few symptoms, while others will suffer through several of them before they realize they have a problem and seek out treatment.

The pain that is experienced because of an enlarged prostate usually appears in one of two ways. Some men will feel a general pain, either dull or sharp, in the pelvic area. Others will feel pain when they urinate, which another sign of a problem with the prostate.

While pain is likely when suffering from enlarged prostate symptoms, it is by no means the most frequent. The most common of the enlarged prostate symptoms is certainly urination issues. The gamut of urination problems is quite wide, with some men experiencing a weak urine stream or dribbling urine while other men may feel the need to urinate frequently or may experience incontinence. These are usually caused by an enlarged prostate putting pressure on the urethra or the bladder, but also could be caused by an infection.

Sexual dysfunction is another of the most common enlarged prostate symptoms. This is another symptom that some men may try to ignore because they are too embarrassed to face the truth. Whether the problem is impotence or just a weaker erection that usual, those suffering from sexual dysfunction will be relieved to know that the problem can usually be repaired when the enlarged prostate has been treated.

The good news is that all of these symptoms can often be relieved by simply treating the enlarged prostate, whether through traditional medicines or natural supplements. More and more men are turning to natural supplements because they tend to avoid the side effects that are common with synthetic drugs and have also been clinically proven to work.

Supplements containing zinc and saw palmetto have been shown to be especially effective, not only in lessening symptoms, but also preventing problems from arising in the first place.
