An advertisement for the product “Prosamin” on the Quantum Health Website, www.enlargedprostate.com.au  should not have been published.

This advertisement unlawfully made claims that the product Prosamin has no side effects, and is a potent and safe formulation of which there is no better way to reduce the effects of an enlarged prostate.

The advertisement also fails to make clear that the product Prosamin is only indicated for ‘symptomatic relief of medically diagnosed benign prostate hyperplasia’ and claims it may reverse the damage your prostate has endured for years.

In making these claims, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has determined that the advertisement is likely to be misleading, arouse unwarranted and unrealistic expectations of the product effectiveness, bring about fear or distress about the likelihood of “reducing the effects of an enlarged prostate and may even help to prevent the onset of an enlarged prostate before it takes over your life” which may lead consumers to self-diagnose or inappropriately treat a potentially serious disease.

If you have used “Prosamin” to treat or prevent the symptoms of enlarged prostate solely because of the claims contained in this advertisement, you should seek medical advice as a matter of priority.

The TGA has found other aspects of the advertisement to be exaggerated and inaccurate.

As a consequence of these breaches of the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989, our company has instigated an internal compliance program to ensure a breach of this nature does not reoccur.
